About the Painting
Sunday Morning began with a photograph and video I took one quiet Sunday morning in the South Carolina woods before church. The light was filtering through the trees in a way that made me stop and take notice, and there in the stillness stood a buck—a small encounter that would eventually become the beginning of The Quiet Places.
When I returned to that moment to paint it, I wasn't interested in recreating every detail. I wanted to hold onto what made me stop in the first place: the stillness of the woods, the softness of the morning atmosphere, and that quiet encounter with the buck among the trees.
Sunday Morning became the first painting in The Quiet Places, a series centered around the moments outdoors that ask us to slow down, look a little longer, and simply be still.
